What Is The Proper Swing Path

Golf, like other sports played with a stick and ball or puck have a unique fundamental in that these sports are “side on games”, because the player stands to the side of the object they are attempting to hit. So what exactly does that mean for the golfer? It means, of course, that, since the golfer stands to the side of golf ball, the ball is hit at an angle. This angle is created because as the golf club is moved into the backswing the hands, arms and club move back towards the golfer and on the forward swing or downswing, the hands, arms and club move back along that angle towards the ball. Once the ball is struck, the hands, arms and club move back towards the golfer in an angle on the follow-through. The angle back and the angle forward created when swinging a golf club is known as the arc of the swing or swing path. It is not a straight line. The golfer should think about swinging in a circle; on the backswing the club moves inside towards the golfer and on the downswing the club head swings towards the ball then back to the inside.
